I downloaded a file from Mega.co.nz, and when it finished downloading I closed the open file command, and now I cannot find the downloaded file.
I use Firefox to access the download link.

The site has nothing to do with this. The file has been downloaded to a (default) pre-set location, or wherever you have told Firefox to store it in a prompt.
First try opening your downloads: Firefox Button > Downloads (pops up). In here should be a list of all your downloads.
If this doesn't work:
You can find your pre-set download location here:Firefox Button > Options (pops up) > General Tab.
In this tab, there's a section 'Downloads' where two options are displayed: (1) Save files in (2) Always ask where to store files.
In case (1), check this folder. In case (2), you have chosen a location yourself. You can use the Windows Explorer search function (if you really don't have a clue) for the file name, if you know it.

When you choose to Open a file rather than Save it, firefox saves the file in your temp directory. On Windows, you can press +R and then type
daxlerod%temp%

In recent versions of Firefox (version 25 at the time this answer was written) there is an arrow-shaped download icon on the right side of the Firefox toolbar. When you have completed a download, the download icon changes its color to green. Click on the download arrow and it will display a list of completed downloads as shown in the screenshot below. Select any downloaded file in the list by moving the mouse cursor over it, and that downloaded file will change color to show you that you have selected it. Right-click the downloaded file that you have selected and from the popup context menu select Open Containing Folder and a file browser window (Windows Explorer in Windows) will open at the folder where your downloaded file is located.

If you use the mega.co.nz Firefox extension on Windows, it downloads the files to %USERPROFILE%Desktop

If you are using most recent versions of Firefox, now MEGA downloaded files are treated as a 'blob resource' (to purposely avoid writing files using HTML5, something Chrome did when MEGA launched).Not sure if History might remember the 'blob resource' address. However and from personal experience it either is a cached file or a link to an actual 'process' that downloads the file as it should. Exiting Firefox does clear the 'blob resource' link.
On older versions, probably a cached file, but that would also be deleted upon exit.
My recommendation: try re-downloading the file.

No idea, how to combine these all files.

To combine the files, open a command prompt window then navigate to the folder where the files are located then use the command 'copy /b file1 + file2 + .. + fileN combinedfile.ext' without quotes. It works for me.

In this temporary folder the download creates a lot of small files, after download is finished, it locates the entire download file at the FireFox download file.
If the Mega downloads is interrupting or stopping for any reason, the temporary file is stuck and takes a lot of free space.

If you want to find where Firefox is internally saving the file:
- In the browser URL bar type in
about:config
and accept the warranty warning. - Type in
browser.download.dir
; the value presented is the save location.

Not sure if this will ever work again but figured I'd start the issue about it. People are reporting that megatools and other downloaders are no longer able to bypass Mega's 5GB restriction. |

Can this error be bypassed by purchasing an account? By that I mean, if you've paid for a legitimate download cap, does the megadl command connect to the server using your username/password to take advantage of your increased limit? |

Thanks megous. I have done some testing. It worked on 1 file of 2 GB, after that I am receiving those 509 errors again. I have used megadl --username name --password password 'ddl'. The account plan I used is 'Pro Lite'. I do see the authentication in the session history as active (Browser: Unknown). No issues when I download using a windows browser like Chrome. |

Thanks for testing, I guess I'll have to check if the browser client does something more than just issuing those same calls it does in unauthenticated mode with the authenticated session id and find the difference. |

That should be set by a proxy server. I don't see it being set on mega.nz website requests in firefox. |

Yes, the point is some sites are dumb enough to blindly trust the X-Forwarded-For header and believe that's your real IP. Could try X-Forwarded-For: 1.2.3.4, 1.2.3.4, 1.2.3.4, 1.2.3.4 (the same IP 4 times) as well. |

I get this even if I don't download files larger than 5GB, like for example this which is a lot of files adding up to 3 something GB. |

@ahsis Are you using a public IP shared by other users? When you are not logged in, the 5 GB bandwidth quota is per IP. Also, it varies based on MEGA's load, but I think it's always been 5 GB lately. |

No, but my shitty isp might be doing some fuckery since I'm using their shitty router which automatically resets itselfs and enables other customers to connect to it even if protected by wpa2 |

Hey megous, I'm still having some problems with megatools 509 error. I tested by buying an account and signing in through the .megarc file but I still get the 509 error from 'megadl'. Tried testing with another account that is free and it seems as the download limit is independent of accounts. Tried using 'megadl --username user --password pass link' as suggested above but was returned error 'Unkown option --username'. Anyone know how to fix it? Thank you. |
